5. Preparation

5.1 Before we carry out any work you should arrange to have your chimney swept to ensure it is free of excess soot and obstructions.

5.2 Any room that we are working in should be cleared of clutter and any furniture or valuable items moved out of the way and covered with dust sheets, carpets should be covered.

5.3 Although great care will be taken, we cannot be responsible for any items, flooring or furnishings that are damaged by soot from an existing chimney.

5.4 Due to constantly changing regulations it is the sole responsibility of the customer to ensure PRIOR to purchase that local regulations permit the installation and use of wood fired appliances at their post code (example smokeless zones).

5.5 Where a new chimney(s) is/are required (masonry or prefabricated) the customer is solely responsible for seeking advice from the local authority that this is permitted and if necessary obtain planning approval prior to committing to purchase / installation. (Smokeless zones, Listed building, conservation area)

5.6 It is NOT the responsibility of Warm Home Stove Installations or its agents to seek these approvals and we shall not be held responsible in any respect for any installations carried out without the required local authority approvals.

6. Installation

6.1 Removal/replacement of skirting boards is not included in your quotation unless agreed otherwise, this can be done at an extra cost.

6.2 Every care is taken when works are carried out on the roof, however if the roof is in poor condition, (loose ridge tiles, rotten battens, loose or de laminated tiles or slates) We cannot be held responsible for further damage to tiles, slate, felt, battens lead etc.

6.3 Any rubbish / rubble will be bagged and left in a suitable place for you to dispose of unless otherwise arranged

6.4 We will open up the chimney chamber to the original dimensions only, if any further works are required to enlarge the space to ensure proper installation of the stove, this can be done for an additional charge, please note that although we provide quotations in good faith it is not always possible to know the size of any opening unless it is visible at the time of the survey.

6.5 Some stoves have a longer lead time, this can be discussed during the survey and bookings will be made accordingly, be aware that upon choosing a product that is not readily available we can usually only give an approximate date of delivery/installation, we will not be responsible for any losses incurred either directly or indirectly as a consequence of having to change this date due to availability from a third party

6.6 An installation price will include the patching in of plaster works, this will be done to the highest standard possible by a professional plasterer however we will not be responsible for any unevenness where the new plaster meets the existing, A quotation can be given for taking the whole chimney breast back to brick to achieve a neater plaster finish this can be discussed during your survey. It is normal and unavoidable for shrinkage cracks to appear in the plaster.

6.7 Be aware that due to the nature of any natural stone or timber some variation In colour will occur

6.8 If you are choosing to open up the chimney chamber and using the natural brick as a background, although great care will be taken we cannot guarantee the finish on the edges of the brick if we have had to enlarge the opening.

6.9 If you are wanting a lined chimney chamber with the intention of painting for a smoother finish , we advise that you use a heatproof paint in order to prevent bubbling. The material used for this purpose is a non-combustible board which does sometimes craze when exposed to continuous heat.

7. Fuel

7.1 Most stoves, stainless steel flue liners & cowls are not designed for burning processed smokeless fuels or processed wood with added chemicals, use of which will void the manufacturer’s guarantee.

7.2 A 316 flue liner suitable for the use of burning wood only, if you are purchasing a multi fuel stove and intend on burning anything other than wood we would suggest that you upgrade this option to a 904 flue liner

8. Chimney systems: When fitting a new steel chimney, it will need repositioning several times during the assembly process. The outer skin is very thin & can in fact be pushed in with a thumb, it is therefore inevitable that several small scratches & even dents may occur during this process, this in no way effects the performance & needs to be accepted as part of the fitting process. Where we have to pass through a roof structure, to conform to regulations with regard to distances from combustible material it may not be possible to align the appliance exactly where we would like to. Cold chimneys in particular external steel chimney may require pre heating in order to induce an initial updraft prior to lighting.

9. Safety:

9.1 Due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning with burning any combustible materials in an enclosed space it is imperative that you purchase and install a carbon monoxide alarm according to the manufacturer’s instructions. We will not be held responsible for poisoning in any form.

9.2 Always follow the manufacturers instructions and use your stove responsibly. We are not liable for any safety issues arising due to improper use. If you do not have a copy of the user manual please ensure you contact the manufacturer to obtain one immediately.

9.3 Do NOT burn anything other than wood if you have opted for the standard wood burning only flue liner, this could cause corrosion in the liner and cause risk to you or your neighbour, we will not be held liable for this. Most chimney liner manufacturers have testing kits and will take samples for analysis to determine what fuel has been used.

9.4 Your chimney liner should be swept twice per year to prevent build up which restricts air flow and compromises the durability of the liner, we offer a discount for existing customers, please contact us for more details
